This is the Chand Baori, a stepwell in Rajasthan, India. It dates back to between 800-900 AD. It is a spectacular piece of art with aspects of Mughal and Hindu Architecture. I'm fascinated by the geometric complexity of the symmetrical steps. All around the well, there are hundreds of scriptures carved into the stone. This piece of architecture is also an allusion to Hindu mythology in which water plays a huge part as a boundary between heaven and earth.
